• Last week was a battle between ambition and existential insignificance, and I didn’t really accomplish too much. I’m hoping this week will be a bit better.

  • I’m three episodes in to season 2 of Rings of Power (we rewatched the first season to remember what happened) and loving it. I love how the sense of impending doom never really leaves.

  • I finally finished Jedi Survivor yesterday

It was pretty fantastic. The Jedi games are great additions to the Star Wars universe. I won’t spoil anything, but the twist towards the end got me - I was not expecting it at all! I still feel it… Can’t wait for the third game. I’ll play Outlaws next, and hope they captured the magic of a galaxy … read more

  • It’s been a hot minute since I watched anything on Prime Video, but God damn the introduction of ads has made it damn near unwatchable.

I would happily give up Prime Music (because I don’t use it anyway) for ad-free Prime Video again. Without having to pay extra.

  • I have hit the point that I need to start applying for “real” jobs, and for all the technology in the process, recruitment is so broken.

I just uploaded my CV, then had to spend 30 minutes retyping it into the “previous experience” section of a site’s recruitment page because it did such a bad job of automatically pulling out that information.

Like, can’t you just read my CV? Is that so hard, recruiters? Why make me waste my time on something so incredibly stupid.

  • With the re-emergence of feature phones, how long until we see other “dumb” tech?

Personally, I would love to see dumb TV panels become common. Give me the best possible screen without the Smart TV software, and I’ll add my own set-top box…

  • I don’t like to spend a lot of time looking back wondering “what if?”, but in year 10 my career survey said I was best suited to be a Maths teacher and I often wonder if I didn’t fuck up my life by pursuing a career in the media instead.

  • I awoke today to my brain attacking my sense of self-worth.

It’s hard to accomplish anything under these conditions. Taking the rest of the day.

  • Every time I go to the dentist, they ask me if I drink tea or coffee. I tell them I drink coffee, they tell me my teeth are stained from drinking coffee, and then they clean it all off.

I look forward to the day they just clean it without the back and forth beforehand.

  • Meat feast to celebrate the first-born’s birthday. The meat sweats are real.

  • Had one of those weekends where I came away realising that my kids are both really awesome humans. Sometimes I forget in amongst all the teenage angst and attitude.

  • I finally bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and started creating video content for YouTube, TikTok and instagram. I don’t love it - I’m not very good I don’t think. But it’s not as terrible an experience as I thought it would be.

  • Finished watching His Dark Materials tonight. It’s one of my favourite books, so I had high expectations.

    I loved it.

Mary Malone’s story in the last episode just pulled me apart, and then the ending was emotionally exhausting…

Dafne Keen was incredible as Lyra. After what happened with The Golden Compass, I’m so glad this show got made.

  • I am really keen to play Star Wars Outlaws. Regardless of the reviews, I’m pretty sure it’s exactly my style of game.

But, I only started Jedi Survivor not that long ago. It’s going to be a while before I get to Outlaws…

  • Had my busiest day in ages today. Highlight was definitely having an intimate meal cooked for me by Rodney Dunn, the founder of Australia’s best restaurant, the Agrarian Kitchen, to showcase a new AEG cooktop.

    It was delicious.

Good food being cooked on the new ARG cooktop.
  • Disney cancelled the Acolyte.

    Damn.

Wasn’t a perfect show, but Manny Jacinto was incredible as The Stranger and I want to see more of him in that role.

  • I’m enjoying Ghost a month after migration

So it has been about a month since I began migrating BTTR from Wordpress to Ghost. I’m still fixing things and tidying up errors and SEO issues I keep finding from the migration. Despite the fact it’s still not performing as well as the old site before Google penalised it, I’m feeling pretty good … read more

  • A great (yet depressing) article from The Telegraph on how algorithms are making it harder for bands to succeed.

  • Asked for a quote from a tech company for an article, and the quote was “There is ample information available on the internet that outlines the benefits of (the topic I was asking about)”.

Yes, friend. But I wanted you to tell me so I could quote YOU.

    That’s a swing and a miss, right there…

  • Did a bunch of work to finish the migration from .com.au to .reviews today, and somehow (I know exactly what it was… now) borked my email. Fixed now, but missed a few hours in there.
