About

I know I’m not the only person finding things hard at the moment. On paper, I have a pretty amazing life. I have an incredible wife, two fantastic kids, and a great job (that I felt comfortable enough to leave). I own the better part of my house and have no significant debts.

But I’m 42 now, and everything just feels flat.

So I’ve started writing again. While writing was the bulk of my career as a technology journalist, over the past few years, my role has moved away from creativity and into spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

But who am I?

Funnily enough, I find that question really difficult to answer, and hope to find some clarity by reflecting on it on this blog.

What I can confidently say is that my name is Nick Broughall, and I am a 42-year-old man with two incredible children and an amazing wife.

I have spent the past 20 years building a solid career out of writing, editing and publishing, initially in print, but now almost exclusively online.

Things I’m learning about myself at the moment include that I enjoy board games, that I don’t read anywhere near enough, and that I probably need to exercise a lot more.

I have a bunch of author pages around the Australian technology scene, so if you’re looking to read something a bit more professional than my random ramblings here, you can follow any of the following links (though some of them are pretty old):
